Quote By Sen. McCain on looking into Vladimir Putin’s eyes when they met. (Oct 7th Debate 2008)
Witness Protection (ReConstitution 2008) from Sosolimited on Vimeo.
I’m getting on (at the ripe old age of 27), so it can take a lot to drag me out of the house on a school night (especially after getting my ass kicked at the gym). But as you may know already, whilst helpless when it comes to voting — I feel that the least I can do is follow the elections (closely), organize debate nights with friends back in the UK and confess my love/hate for the Perception Analyzer.
Couple this with the fact that my VERY good friend and all round publicity superstar (Catherine Carter at FunkyDumpling PR) was representing the SoSo Limited team behind the MEGA SUPER GRAPHICS™ debate night at the Art Directors Club* and you’ve got yourself a deal. *BTW Massive Congrats to Doug Jaeger @ Happy Corp (who I didn’t know I was sat next to until now…hmmm most probably the closest I’ll ever get to a President).
To recap ReConstitution 2008:
“In each scene the video, audio and closed captioning is sampled, transformed, and put back together in a different way. We reconstitute the material, revealing linguistic patterns, exposing content and structures, and fundamentally altering the way in which you watch the debates.”
Seriously amazing idea and no doubt if I wasn’t so plugged into the elections I would have absolutely LOVED it. I thought the Witness Protection and The Me, You and the Other Guy treatments were brilliant (see video). BUT during certain sections (The Face Remix part) I became really frustrated with the graphic treatment and the audio. I wanted to see Obama’s sprightliness and McCain’s Cronyiness (…what are these Cronyisms you speak of John?) and less video graphics. That aside the night was great and definitely refreshing.
It completely opened my eyes to audio/visual design in politics and definitely took my eyeballs and brain to the next level in POLITICAL SUPER GRAPHICS™(CNN take note).
If you happen to be in DC definitely check out the next one. Me? I’ll hopefully be watching the next debate with fellow BBM, Debate Tweeter and Data Queen Debs Balme with wine, cheese and the trustily annoying Perception Analyzer.
